Our
Mission
It is our mission to help save the lives of countless unwanted cats
and dogs by supporting organizations that offer free or low-cost
spay and neuter services across the state of Florida.
Our History
In 2004, at the Legislative Session, a Florida State
senator, Nan Rich (now on the Advisory Board) sponsored a bill
for an animal license plate in which the proceeds raised would provide
education on the benefits of spaying and neutering pets, as well
as financial assistance to not-for-profit spay/neuter programs across
the state of Florida. Soon after, the Florida Animal Control Agency,
the Florida Veterinary Medical Association and the Humane Society
of the United States started Florida Animal Friend. Florida Animal
Friend has been incorporated since October 2005.
Florida Animal Friend is an organization that began
in an effort to help end pet overpopulation. With help from charitable
contributions, FAF primarily works toward the goal of ending pet
overpopulation through the sale of the Florida Animal Friend license
plates. Funds raised
from the sale of these license plates are used to finance spay and
neuter programs across the State of Florida.
The funds allocated to these spay and
neuter programs go towards increasing the number of alteration surgeries
conducted at non-profit and municipal agencies across Florida. An
increase in the number of these surgeries greatly reduces pet overpopulation
and ultimately saves the lives of countless homeless cats and dogs
from being put to sleep each year.
