Frequently Asked Questions

How exactly does the Florida Animal Friend Spay/Neuter License Plate fund work?
Florida Animal Friend receives $25.00 for each spay/neuter license plate that is purchased (and renewed each year). These funds will be used exclusively to help end cat and dog overpopulation by increasing spay and neuter surgeries in the State of Florida. In addition, up to 10% of the Florida Animal Friend funds can be used to develop and implement a statewide education program about the importance of spay and neuter, as well as promotion of the Florida Animal License Plate and any administrative costs.

Where can I purchase a Florida Animal Friend License Plate?
The license plate can be purchased at any county license tag office, by mail, or online on our website.

You can also purchase it by mail: http://www.floridaanimalfriend.org/PurchasePlate or online through our Point and Pay E-payment Services.

How much does a Florida Animal Friend License Plate cost?
The cost of the plate is $25.00. This is in addition to the regular new plate or renewal fee that is charged by the Department of Motor Vehicles as well as an annual state fee and, if necessary, a one-time new plate cost.

How does it work?
When you renew your registration at your local tax collector's office, simply let them know you wish to replace your current tag with a specialty license plate. If it is not time in your tag's cycle to replace the metal plate, you will pay a few additional dollars to switch to a specialty plate. Specialty tags cost a set fee (annually) above the standard Florida tag, and the fees vary based on the tag. These additional funds go to support the cause for which the tag was designed. In this case, Florida Animal Friend will receive $25.00 for each plate that is purchased (and renewed each year).

Can I have my pet’s name put on the plate?
Yes. You can have a personalized and a specialty plate. It costs an additional $12.00 to personalize your plate.

How will the proceeds of the Florida Animal Friend plate be used?
The revenue generated from the sale of license plates will be distributed to non-profit organizations and governmental agencies around the state to fund spay/neuter programs.
